From the North From Middlesbrough take the A66 eastwards, then the A171 towards Whitby, passing Guisborough, going up Birk Brow, a very twisty hill, and out onto the moors past Lockwood Beck and Scaling Dam. IGNORE ALL SIGNS FOR GLAISDALE!

After two sets of rumble strips there is a complicated junction - hard right for Lealholm and Glaisdale, fork right for Egton and Grosmont. Take the fork towards Egton. Soon there is a crossroads - with a sign for Egton Banks. Turn right.

Follow the road down and down - through the farmyard of Egton Banks Farm - until the road goes level(ish) for a while. Keep on going, under the railway bridge and on into and through the village, up the hill past the tennis courts, church and village hall, and Lanes barn will come into view on the right.

From the South
From the A1(M) take the A64 past York, on to Malton. From the Malton bypass take the A169 to Pickering and Whitby. After Pickering follow the A169 onto the moors passing the Hole of Horcum and Fylingdales. Pass two left turns for Goathland. Soon after the second, take a left turn signposted Grosmont and Egton. Follow the road on down into Grosmont, crossing the North York Moors Railway at the level crossing and on up the hill to Egton.

At the T-junction in Egton, turn right, pass the Wheatsheaf on the right and turn left - signposted to Glaisdale. Carry on for about 2 miles to the top of Limber Hill which is very steep. Keep on going, under the railway bridge and on into and through the village, up the hill past the tennis courts, church and village hall, and Lanes barn will come into view on the right.

From Whitby Take the A171 towards Guisborough and Middlesbrough - usually signposted 'Teesside'. At each roundabout go straight on. Climb up and up away from Whitby and when the road levels out and begins to descend. take the left turn signposted to Egton and Grosmont. It has a brown tourist sign for the North York Moors Railway. As you come into Egton you will see the Wheatsheaf pub on the left. Turn right - signposted to Glaisdale - and follow instructions as for 'From the South' above.
